Comet Hale-Bopp (C/1995 O1)
If you like these, check out my little primer on "tripod only" photography on The Astronomy Page here. As is the case with all of my posted pictures, you can use these for computer wallpaper/desktops and websites (but please give me credit and link it). Please be patient while the graphics load.
Exposure # HB1 : This one was taken on the morning of March 08, 1997, out in Valley Center, CA. Many thanks to Don & Janet for loaning me their driveway! I used Kodak RG 1000 ASA film, 45 mm lens, f/2.2, with about a 30 second exposure.
Exposure # HB2 : This picture was taken in the Anza-Borrego State Park (at the OPTAS site), California on the morning of March 09, 1997. I used Fuji SG 800 ASA film, 45mm lens, f/2.2 with about a 40 second exposure.
Exposure # HB3 : This picture was taken in Valley Center, California of the evening of March 25, 1997. The trees in the immediate foreground are part of Bates Nut Farm. I used Kodak RG 1000 ASA film, 45mm lens, f/2.2 with about a 30 second exposure.
Exposure # HB4 : This is one of my favorites. The picture was taken in the Anza-Borrego State Park, California on the evening of March 29, 1997. I used Kodak RG 1000 ASA film, 45mm lens, f/2.2 with about a 30 second exposure.
Exposure # HB5 : There I am, right there, at the bottom of the picture. I was just casually observing (with a flashbulb in my face). This picture was taken in Valley Center, California on the evening of April 07, 1997. I used Fuji SG 800 film, 45mm lens, f/2.2 and 30 second exposure.
Exposure # HB6 : This dramatic picture was taken as a lit up a eucalyptus tree in the foreground. The same tree has provided the same pose for me before, but never with a flash. This picture was taken in Valley Center, California on the evening of April 07, 1997. I used Fuji SG 800 film, 45mm lens, f/2.2 and 30 second exposure.
Exposure # HB7 : The same flash trick was applied to this picture as in the previous picture. Again, it came up with a dramatic contrast. This picture was taken in Valley Center, California on the evening of April 07, 1997. I used Fuji SG 800 film, 45mm lens, f/2.2 and 30 second exposure.
Exposure # HB8 : I know that these from 04/12 might be tough to see here but they are worth it! This was taken in Anza-Borrego on the evening of 04/12/97 using Kodak RG 1000 and a 45mm lens. The tail is very pronounced and the Pleiades star cluster is really beautiful.
Exposure # HB9 : This was taken on the evening of 04/12/97 in the desert of Anza-Borrego State Park. I used Kodak RG 1000 film with a 45mm lens. Really unusual flash work and a low aperture at the time of flash combine to give the bush in the foreground a really ghostly appearance.
Exposure # HB10 : This was taken in Anza-Borrego State Park on the evening of 04/12/97 with Kodak RG 1000 and a 45mm lens. Really unusual flash work and a low aperture at the time of flash combine to give the Ocotillo plants in the foreground a neat look.
Exposure # HB11 : This is one my last sets. It was taken against a first quarter moon. If you look you can make out the Earthshine on the Moon as well.
